Our Pastor
The Reverend Jean E. Smith has been contracted to serve as Interim Pastor of Concord Presbyterian Church beginning July 11. Jean hales us from Mars, Pennsylvania where she resides with her husband, Paul. Jean is a graduate of Miami University with a degree in Education. She also holds a Masters degree in Counseling from Wright State University and directed a crisis intervention center for several years before starting a family. When her children were older, she returned to school and earned a Masters of Divinity from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She was ordained in 1998. Jean has served as an associate pastor; head of staff pastor and as an interim pastor. Most recently, she served the Valencia Presbyterian Church in Valencia, Pennsylvania. Jean brings with her a wealth of insight and experience and most especially, enthusiasm for sharing Christ with the next generation and encouraging them to share their gifts and talents to the glory of God. She has a passion for serving others through short term mission opportunities. This passion has taken her to local soup kitchens, to Appalachia to build a community center, six times to Mississippi to do hurricane relief work and as far away as St. Petersburg, Russia where she shared in a sister church program with a Russian Orthodox congregation. Jean is currently on a mission trip to Montana where she is serving on a Native American Indian reservation to refurbish a church and help lead a VBS program.
Music is also a passion of Jean's. She plays the guitar and enjoys singing both contemporary worship songs and the great hymns of the Church. Her favorite scripture verse is Colossians 3:23, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.
Jean is looking forward to serving the people of Concord Presbyterian Church and she asks you to pray daily for the church as we make our way through the interim ministry process. PRAYER: Gracious God, fill us with the high expectation that You have a vital future for our church. One in which You will act in fresh new ways to inspire discipleship and meet the needs of people. Give us the guidance that we need to cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit to bring about that vibrant future. Renew our faith and transform our church. We acknowledge our complete dependence on the Spirit of God for the fruit to come. We pray in Jesus' name and for His sake. Amen.
